Relief from Chronic Back Pain

“Dr. Lavine’s treatment addresses several conditions that I developed early: fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, knee pain, and foot problems. You’d think I was a walking disaster! But at 61 I lead an active life and manage quite well. I don’t need pain medicines and my overall health is better. I can work long days reading, writing, teaching, and making jewelry– all of which I love.”

Works Wonders

“I have been going to Ron Lavine for a number of years. His neurotactile therapy works wonders for the aches and pains which I have. I think it feels better than a massage. I highly recommend him.”

“I have known Ron for over 20 years. I have had to use his services from time to time because of either back problems, or shoulder and neck issues. Every time, Ron solved my problems through efficient treatments.”

NeuroTactile® Therapy can help with:

Spine pain, neck pain, low back pain

Chronic pain including fibromyalgia

Sports injury and recovery

Disc problems, stenosis, arthritis, sciatica

NTT works on two levels: alleviates spine & muscle pain while restoring your overall vitality

Your low back pain is the result of changes in the discs, joints, muscles, nerves, and the other pieces of your anatomy. But pain also exists in a larger context.  Body imbalances change the communication channels between the body and the brain. NeuroTactile® Therapy heals your damaged low back structures while also treating the reflexes that connect the nerve endings in the skin to the brain, your body’s master control organ.

Restore balance to your body naturally

NTT is particularly useful for people who seek a natural remedy for low back pain, chronic pain (including fibromyalgia), chronic fatigue, tendon and joint injuries that linger without fully healing, headache, neuropathy, and imbalances of body systems that don’t respond to conventional (allopathic) medical methods.

Client Stories

– Sarah –

A woman in her late sixties was experiencing tingling in her feet. Her medical doctor had her spine imaged with MRI and gave the diagnosis of spinal stenosis.  That means that over the years, the joints of the spine deteriorate and as a result, there’s pressure on the nerves as they pass through the spinal canal, before they emerge to form the sciatic nerve.

I saw her once or twice per week for about six months. In addition, I showed her some of the well-tested stretches and relief postures known to be helpful for stenosis, and a group of exercises to strengthen the supporting muscles of her trunk.

I’d like to be able to say her symptoms were entirely alleviated, but in truth they didn’t go away altogether. But she was better. Much better. She was able to stand, walk, and climb stairs much more easily and for longer periods than before.

Then she moved to California.

A year-and-a-half later, she came to New York for a week.    She had been seeing a chiropractor and a physical therapist out there, each of whom had been helpful. But she knew she needed NeuroTactile® Therapy, so she made sure to book a couple of appointments.  She was grateful to get her nervous system back on track with a couple of additional treatments.

A woman in her mid-fifties came for a free demo of NeuroTactile® Therapy.  She had strong, sharp pain in her right buttock area and had already been treated by a physical therapist and another doctor of chiropractic. With their help, her pain had diminished to the point of being at least manageable, but she still was uncomfortable and limited in her ability to stand or walk for long periods. After her first 20 minutes NeuroTactile® Therapy session she felt immediately and completely better. Her pain did return to a modest degree over the next two or three days.  I treated her four more times over the next three weeks and she’s stayed out of pain since then.

– Zoey –

A twenty-nine year old in her second trimester of pregnancy began to have severe pain in her left buttock. This is common: when a woman’s body prepares for delivery, hormones circulate to weaken the pelvic ligaments to allow for maximum expansion of the birth canal. The downside is that the sacroiliac joint can’t handle the stress of ordinary activities – things as simple as walking, for instance.

Chiropractic adjustments are an option when the sacroiliac joint is out of whack, but in the case of a pregnant woman, my concern would be that an adjustment of an already compromised joint might make the situation even worse. Instead, I used NeuroTactile® Therapy.

Instantly from her first visit she experienced relief.  I cautioned her that the results could be temporary, since nothing I did changed the fundamental fact that her ligaments were extra stretchy and she was carrying around lots of extra weight.

I continued to see her every two weeks throughout her pregnancy.  Though she still had buttock pain from time to time, her symptoms were much more manageable and she was able to enjoy anticipating the birth of her first child.

What You’ll Experience

NeuroTactile® Therapy uses a special finger-tip stroke over the low back, spine, and throughout the body.

Every square inch of your skin surface is home to millions of nerve endings. The stroke wakes up those nerve endings like crazy. Oftentimes, you’ll feel a sense of scratching, cutting or tingling.  The scratchy, nerve-stimulating feeling means that the technique is working just the way it should. NeuroTactile® Therapy will give those nerve endings a new message – an invigorating, calming, rejuvenating, relieving message – to completely change your pain experience.

Pain signals are erased.  And pain pathways in the brain are altered too.

When you first experience NeuroTactile® Therapy you’ll immediately feel that it’s unlike anything else. Like many other patients who used to have severe pain, you’ll soon experience how great you feel after a NeuroTactile® Therapy treatment.  And how a treatment program can help you toward a healthier, pain-free life.

FAQ

What is the goal of NeuroTactile® Therapy treatment?

To naturally relieve pain, help you feel better and achieve improved health.

How does NTT achieve those goals?

NeuroTactile® Therapy normalizes the reflexes that connect the nerve endings in the skin to the brain, your body’s master control organ. When these reflexes are out of balance, all sorts of health problems can emerge. At the same time, the imbalance shows up as changes in the texture and mobility of the skin. Those changes in the skin are the signals I follow to target the areas most needing treatment. And they help me monitor treatment effectiveness, too.

What does NTT feel like?

NTT uses a special stroke in which the fingertip traces a line across the body surface. Oftentimes it feels like a light soothing touch. It can also feel like scratching or cutting. (It’s not painful, though, as it would be if someone were really cutting you!) In addition, because it stimulates the nerve endings in the skin, the special NTT stroke can trigger sensations in other body parts – a stroke on the left lower back can activate sensation in the right shoulder area, for instance.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for NTT?

In the most general sense, everyone can benefit from NTT. Anyone can enjoy a boost in health. NTT is particularly useful, though, for people who seek a natural remedy for chronic pain, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, tendon and joint injuries that linger without fully healing, headache, neuropathy, and imbalances of body systems that don’t respond to conventional (allopathic) medical methods.

How long does it take to start feeling better?

You already know the answer to this question – it depends on the individual situation; every case is different. But with NTT, you’re not left to wonder and hope if the technique is helping you. Right from the beginning you’ll be able to feel that something beneficial is happening. Your body will quickly pick up the new tactile messages and begin to erase pain, step up the healing process, and move towards improved health. What varies from person to person is how long it takes for these effects to accumulate enough to start to feel appreciably better.

How often do I have to come for treatment?

There’s no formula. A lot of patients benefit from coming two or even three times a week for the first week or two to jumpstart their recovery. Many people come once a week. Your treatment plan is tailored to your needs.

How long do I have to keep coming?

Over the years I’ve had enthusiastically positive patients who I’ve seen for only two or three visits. I also have enthusiastically positive patients who I’ve seen periodically over a period of twenty, thirty years or more. There is no single path that’s best for everyone. Many people achieve their goals within two or three visits. However, for most people, the first step is to confirm within the first few visits that NTT is leading you on the path to improvement. Certainly, if you’re not feeling a noticeable benefit within the first 6 to 10 treatments, something about NTT isn’t working for you. After that, the length of your treatment program depends on the nature of your condition, the state of your overall health, and your commitment to the other positive health actions you need to take. For one or more reasons, some people choose to continue with periodic treatment (every three or four weeks is a common pattern) even after their symptoms are well under control.

Are there any contraindications for using NTT? Are there any negative side effects?

NeuroTactile® Therapy is safe and free from side effects in almost every situation. People with severe deterioration of their skin might be better avoiding this treatment. If you have a volatile nervous system, you might experience some unpleasant (though not harmful) side effects after a treatment – lightheadedness, mild nausea, or the like. Usually these effects can be side-stepped by slightly recalibrating the treatment intensity.

How does NTT combine with “regular” chiropractic methods?

I am a doctor of chiropractic and I also make use of other sophisticated manual therapy methods, including mobilization and adjustments of the spinal joints, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, craniosacral therapy, and movement and postural awareness techniques. Some patients have a treatment plan focused exclusively on NeuroTactile® Therapy. Others benefit more from a combined approach.

What does it cost?

Your first visit is free. However, I offer only a limited amount of free initial sessions per month on a first come, first served basis. After that, visits typically are $115. You can also opt for a six-pack of visits for $585. For those ready to make an ongoing commitment to their health, this brings the cost down considerably.

How long is a treatment session?

It only takes about twenty minutes or so. ButI leave a half hour for each patient to provide a more responsive and nuanced treatment for each individual.

How come no one’s ever heard of this?

I don’t know. NeuroTactile® Therapy has been around since 1929, when it was first developed by German physical therapists. It’s a mystery to me why an effective technique of this type isn’t more widely utilized. It does take more time, training, and expertise than other methods. So I suppose most practitioners, even if they learn a little about it  don’t bother to take the time to master it.

Why is Dr. Lavine offering free demo sessions?

My mission is to help people who may not know about NTT but are seeking relief from their pain. My goal is to make the public much more aware of this important healing method. Offering a free demo session is an easy way to reach more people.

Will my health insurance cover this treatment?

Regrettably, no insurance company has chosen to offer me a network provider contract that would reasonably compensate me for the extra expertise and treatment time that a comprehensive treatment program including NeuroTactile® Therapy requires. Therefore, I choose not to be an in-network provider with any health plan. Those with out of network benefits might qualify for coverage, and in some cases I can accept your case on assignment. If you’re a Medicare beneficiary, partial coverage may also be available. Call me to discuss these options more fully.

Where did NTt come from?

In 1978 I was a student at New York Chiropractic College.  To pay my tuition, I worked painting apartments in New York City.

One of my customers was an elderly German doctor.  He knew I was a chiropractic student.  When I finished his apartment, he said to me, “You should learn Bindegewebsmassage.   It’s a great technique they use in Germany, but no one in the US uses it.  Patients will flock to your office.” I said, “Thank you very much.  That will be $245.”  I gave the matter no more thought.

As fate would have it, later that year I heard about a training course being taught by a German physical therapist in a special technique I couldn’t even pronounce.  It turned out to be the same method the doctor had told me about.

Over a period of a few months, the instructor taught us the basics.  I read all the textbooks about it.  (They’re now out of print.)  I studied the neurological basis for the technique, and reviewed the clinical research that’s been done.

I was eager to put my knowledge to use, and began using the technique while still a chiropractic intern.  I was encouraged by the results and continued to refine my approach.

It’s become a cornerstone of my practice ever since — and the results have been extraordinary.

(I no longer call it Bindegewebsmassage – that’s too hard to pronounce.  I made up my own name for it – NeuroTactile® Therapy.)

Over my career of 35+ years, I’ve treated many thousands of patients with NTT. Many people find relief with a handful of visits. Though the method has been around for more than 85 years, very few have experienced NTT before or even heard of it.

My mission is to help people who may not know about NTT but have been seeking relief from their pain.

Dr. Lavine is Different

“I have had neck pain for many years — probably caused by TMJ. I have been to dozens of health professionals seeking treatment, including physical therapists, physiatrists, acupuncturists, medical teams and and alternative health practioners of all sorts., etc. Any relief was short-lived. Dr. Ron Lavine is different. He has magic, healing hands that find and relieve each source of my pain. I also suffer from leg cramps that wake me at night. Dr. Lavine was just as effective at relieving my leg pain. I always leave Dr. Lavine’s office completely relaxed and soothed, He is truly a gem!”

Active in Retirement

“Initially I was afraid to go to a chiropractor but a friend recommended Dr. Lavine. I soon came to appreciate his gentleness and responsiveness. He pays attention to my body and what I tell him. Over the years he helped me with problems as they’d arise – it allowed me to deal with the rigors of work. Now, as I’ve gotten older he helps me cope with the changes of aging. He draws on his knowledge of movement and the body from his background as a dancer. I especially appreciate his use of neuro-tactile therapy. It really helps. I’m able to enjoy retirement and be a highly active person. Last summer I walked 5 miles to and from the pool to swim every day.”

Diane Speicher

Ten Star Chiropractor

“I have been a patient of Dr. Lavine’s for over ten years. I deal with a great deal of chronic and acute low back pain as well as neck discomfort. Dr. Lavine has helped me by using a variety of physical therapies, alone or in combination, that vary with each visit, according to what my body needs. His unique medical experience and comprehension of kinesthetics allows him to use what is most appropriate. He applies chiropractic adjustments, myofacial release, stretching techniques, Neurotactile therapy and body mechanics education to help me. I can not say enough about how much better I feel after each session with Dr. Lavine. He deserves a 10 star rating!”
